    What final overdrive 5th gear ratio does your T5 have in your 1966 fastback? Do you like the 3.55 gears paired with the T5 gears and overdrive? I am going to be doing about the same thing soon as my 68 fastback has 2.79 gears and I have a TKX trans with 5th gear .68 overdrive . I am trying to figure out what gear ratio i want out back in the 9 inch ford rear I will be building.

    • @AndyKruseChannel
      @AndyKruseChannel 14 часов назад

      0.68:1 is my 5th gear ratio. The 3.55:1 third member pairs well with giving the car a little more pep down low, but still good RPMs for the highway cruising I need to do to get anywhere. However, if I had to do it over again, I go with 3.70 or 3.89 gearing. I am willing to take a slight hit in highway RPMs for better acceleration down low. I think you need to evaluate how often you'll be at highway speeds compared to slower speeds. If you won't be on the highway for extended periods of time, taking the lower gearing (numerically higher numbers) will probably be more fun to drive. :)

    Hey what’s up Andy! I got a 71 Ford maverick and just got two new springs OEM matched. I got a lot of trouble centering it so I can’t get the shocks lined up straight. Would you recommend just chopping them to give myself a easier time lining up on the stiff perches? Like an inch or so

    • @AndyKruseChannel
      @AndyKruseChannel День назад

      Be careful when cutting your springs. If you have stock upper control arms, cutting a 1/2" of height off the spring will translate into an inch of drop because of the motion ratio of the UCA. Also, clocking the spring to align with the spring perch on the UCA should not be causing you as much trouble as you're experiencing. You might need to reach out to the boys over at VMF and see if they know why your spring is not aligning as expected. :)

    Great video Andy! After watching your video closely I have done mine about 4 times now. I keep getting a leak on the driver's side on the back of the inspection plate. And this is with no oil in the oil pan, and of course the engine not even running. Overnight it will leave about a 5 inch in diameter oil stain on the floor under the bell housing. I can't find any leaks from the valve covers, heads, or intake manifold. Seems like everytime I have done this, it leaks a little more. The times I filled the crankcase, and ran the engine, the main seal did not appear to be leaking, but I could see drips coming from the driver's side rear corner of the oil pan, and oil pan gasket ( I am using the Felpro one piece OS13260T.) So I am wondering if there is something wrong with my oil pan sealing in that corner and somehow that leak is making it's way to the flex plate side of the engine block to bell housing separation plate. The only other thing I could think of is a leaky oil gallery plug on the upper left hand side of the block. Any suggestions on how to better track this down?. I would like to try to eliminate all the possibilities before pulling the engine if it comes to that. Thank You!

    • @AndyKruseChannel
      @AndyKruseChannel 2 дня назад

      Yeah, sometimes tracking this stuff down is difficult and frustrating. If it is the original oil pan, or it's not new, the flange could be warped from people over tightening the pans bolts over time. This can be fixed by putting the pan open-side down on the garage floor and tapping the flange with a hammer until it's completely flat on the floor. Good thinking on the gally plug, but the transmission, flywheel, and block plate all need to come off to check that. Hopefully your flywheel bolts have loctite on them, or oil will get passed the threads and look like a rear main seal leak. The weird part is you say it leaks overnight without putting oil in it. It might be time to head over to VMF and ask the boys there if they can pin point the issue. :)

    I was told it was setup that way for two reasons. 1st it increases the pedal ratio so your pedal will be closer to the floor and not have to move so much. 2nd With a straight linkage as the engine torques up in the mounts it will increase the throttle input.

    • @AndyKruseChannel
      @AndyKruseChannel 5 дней назад

      I can follow the logic on the first one, that makes sense. It still doesn't do me any good as the linkage on my truck was damaged and need to be replaced. This was a cheap option. :) But for the second one, doesn't the engine pitch or roll sideways (or about the axis of the driveline) and so the distance from the throttle pedal lever to the throttle linkage on the side of the carb doesn't change enough to cause a throttling issue?

    • @flipflopsgarage

      AAW prefers to sell their products through vendors. The price on the AAW site is the suggested retail price. Vendors normally sell it at the suggested price, but they also offer sales and discounts from time to time. $200 is better than what I paid for it, grab it!! What should I do with the 85 wire if I don't want to change my sensor in the block for the cheap one in the kit that might not even thread in? Does it not work ran to the existing sensor because I was planning on running it that way along with manual switches in the vehicle to turn the fans on or off

    • @AndyKruseChannel
      @AndyKruseChannel 7 дней назад

      If you have a temperature switch already in the block that "closes" when a specific temp is reached, and then "opens" again when the temp goes back down, you can connect terminal 85 to that switch. Some people think their Temperature Sending Unit in the intake manifold (that your temp gauge reads in the instrument cluster) will work in this scenario, but it will not, it's not that kind of device. If you only want to operate your fan(s) with manual switches, you can still use this wiring layout, but 85 goes to one side of your switch and the other side of your switch connects to Ground. This way you can still use a relay because the juice your fan(s) need is usually too much for your manual switch. :)

    You're actually lucky to have 4 inches clearance. It's only 3.4" for me :(

      You probably have a thicker radiator than what I've got. :)

      @@AndyKruseChannel Oops, sorry. I have a different car. It's a 300E W124. Thanks to it's inline 6 engine, the whole place is cramped on front of the radiator. And even if it's the radiator, can't replace it with a thinner one. Here in Saudi Arabia it gets close to 50C so I cannot afford to. Need that amount of coolant.

    Mistakes and accidents like this happen to all of us Andy. Similar thing happened to me with a new radiator cap that didnt seal all the way. So under pressure it sprayed coolant out while driving.... learned my lesson and had a good laugh!

    What was the part number of the export brace you used on your 1966?

    • @AndyKruseChannel
      @AndyKruseChannel 8 дней назад

      The Export Brace in this video is from CJPony Parts, part number EB4. It's a standard part that you can buy just about any place that sells Mustang parts, they're all generic reproduction units of the original Export Brace. :)

    I have a 460 in a jet boat that I’ve been troubleshooting hot starts with for a while. I have been trying to learn whether I could upgrade to a high output, one wire alternator to keep the batteries at peak load. After watching your video, I am going to give it a shot. Wish me luck….. Will update in a few weeks.!

      A higher amperage Alternator will help charge the batteries faster, ultimately keeping them at peak charge most of the time. But I'm not sure if that is going to change any hot start issues you may be having. A one-wire Alt will simplify your electrical setup, so it may help with troubleshooting electrical issues. :)

    Rinse everything off with water, fill it back up with coolant and go drive it around the block
